Brothers Junior Rugby League Football Club (BJRLFC) Brisbane

                                                          COACHING POLICY

PREAMBLE

Brothers J.R.L.F.C. has a proud tradition over many years in Brisbane Rugby League.  The club has been highly successful, both on and off the field.  While the club recognises that coaches make many sacrifices to give their services to the players, it is important that the club continues to attract and retain players by providing high quality coaching.  To this end, a number of criteria need to be applied in the selection and development of coaches.

  1. All applicants for coaching positions must apply in writing for appointment / re-appointment each year.  The application process is not meant to be onerous, but applicants must meet criteria as outlined below as part of the application process.  Applications must be made using the club generated coaching application form.
  2. All coaches must be suitably qualified or in the process of attaining appropriate coaching qualifications.  Required qualifications may vary according to the team and are at the discretion of coaching director.
  3. Coaching appointments will be considered by a panel of Level 2 coaches and the current coaching director/s who will forward their recommendations to the Management Committee for endorsement.
  4. All coaches are required to attend a pre-season briefing at which specifics of the upcoming season are outlined.
  5. There may be a need for brief coaches’ meetings at various stages throughout the season.  These will be held at the most convenient time on a training night.  Coaches are asked to make themselves available for these meetings.
  6. All coaches are required to attend a number of clinics and/or coaching updates throughout the season.  The minimum number of clinics / updates will be outlined at the pre-season briefing.
  7. Coaching directors are available to assist with training sessions throughout the season.  All coaches will be contacted to arrange a date for the Coaching Director to attend training sessions at various times throughout the season.
  8. An appraisal of all coaches will occur throughout the season.  This will not be based on results, but on the content and running of training sessions, management of players and game day approach.
  9.  In the interests of maximising player development, it is important that players have a variety of coaches whilst playing junior rugby league.  For this reason, it is highly unlikely that a coach would be appointed to coach the same team for more than three consecutive years.
  10. Coaches are encouraged to make use of the coaching resources available at the club.  For any assistance, please approach one of the coaching directors.
